About the event

The highly regarded Rockford Reader’s Theatre invites you to experience the artistry and outstanding contributions of African and African American playwrights, poets, pioneers and storytellers.

Written, coordinated and directed by Dorothy Paige-Turner, performances of scenes, monologues, spoken word, stories, and music will be shared from the works of such literary icons as Zora Neale Hurston, Athol Fugard, Sojourner Truth, Nikki Giovanni, Kemp Powers, Efua Sutherland, and our own Coleen Martin Williams, to highlight a few.

Giving voice to the writers are the very talented George Davis, Jackie Rogers, Richard Meeks, Janet Wright, Antonio Laws, Coleen Martin Williams, and Wendell Thompson.

Seating is first-come, first-served with a 50-seat limit. Free admission. Refreshments served.
