About the event
Through music, poetry, and choral readings, the Rockford Reader’s Theatre will share the history and celebration of Juneteenth, our country’s second Independence Day.
The players will also perform “The Night Before Freedom.” Written by Glenda Armand in 2023, this book relates a Juneteenth story by a great-grandmother to her intergenerational family of the anticipation, emancipation, and jubilation regarding this day as it was told to her many years ago.
Directed, written, and coordinated by Dorothy Paige-Turner, the very talented members of the Rockford Reader’s Theatre include Janet Wright, Wendell Thompson, Coleen Martin Williams, Jackie Rogers, and Carl Towns.
Seating is first-come, first-served with a 50-seat limit. Free admission. Donations appreciated. Suggested donation is $5-$20; we are grateful for any amount you give. Refreshments served.
Arrive early, claim your seat, and shop our extensive, curated collection of beautiful, handmade art and gift items from local artists and artisans.
