About the event
Dorothy and Ron will explore the ways in which folk music has shaped some of our country’s most beloved songs.
They’ll perform and explain folk songs for which:
* neither the composer of the lyrics nor the melody are known (example–“Just A Closer Walk with Thee”)
* a lyric writer appropriated a folk melody (example–“The Battle Hymn of the Republic”)
* a music composer appropriated folk lyrics (example–“900 Miles” folk lyrics in “500 Miles” by Bobby Bare and Peter, Paul, and Mary).
The audience will have many sing-along and hand percussion opportunities.
